Master Data

Master data is the product, order, and production information manage.ID needs to print labels — for example a product’s code and description, or a production order’s batch number and quantity. A coding scenario matches scanned or imported input against master data to find the right record, then uses its fields to fill in a label layout.

Data Types

manage.ID’s master data consists of five types: Product, Production Order, Various Data, Logistic Unit, and Print Job — matching the entries under Master Data in the side bar. For what each one represents, its file structure, and its limitations, see Data Types.

Getting Data Into manage.ID

There are two ways to populate master data:

  • Automatically, through a scheduled or manually triggered import task, configured in Data Integration. Most coding scenarios need master data to be kept up to date this way. See Data Integration > Importing Data. Logistic Units can also be exported back out, for example to an external system — see Data Integration > Exporting Data.
  • Manually, by editing records directly under Master Data in the side bar — useful for one-off changes or for data you don’t import from an external source. See Updating Master Data.

Label layouts and the tags used to match them to printers are configured separately — see Defining Tags.
